Belly Dance:

Learn to feel better about yourself, gain confidence and grace while having fun in a supportive and sisterly atmosphere. The ancient art of Belly Dance has been used throughout the ages in the Near East as a rite of passage for females. The movements are natural to the female body and help tone and strengthen the muscles. The exotic music can lift one’s spirits, thereby encouraging movement. When combined with the graceful motions of the body, this creates a sense of beauty and well-being, thus enhancing mental and physical health. Dance is a natural stress reliever. It is a fun exercise for any age or any shape to gain strength, tone, grace and coordination.

Instructor Nadia Sahar has over 30 years of experience and has been teaching Belly Dance classes at the Sebastian Community Center since 2006.

Gentle Yoga:

Those who practice yoga know its value in improving health, vitality, and prolonging youthful energy. Yoga develops self-awareness as well as control of mind and body through the practice of Asanas (yoga body postures), breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques.

  • Asanas loosen the joints and stretch vertebrae, keeping the skeletal system flexible and relaxed. Asanas also stimulate glands and internal organs beneficially.
  • Breathing exercises focus attention on the integration of mind and body processes. They oxygenate the body while balancing the nervous system.
  • Relaxation techniques provide valuable tools for replacing stress with calmness.

Instructor Linda Cavalier has trained under the direct supervision of the late Joann Leighton who is the founder of The Ashram Yoga and Meditation Center (founded in 1966) and the New England Yoga Teacher’s Association. Close attention to individual body types, health histories, and personal capabilities provide a safe, quality and supportive environment where individuals can progress.
